The Heritage Center at the Dillaway Thomas House, Roxbury Heritage State Park

In 1979 the Dillaway Thomas House was nearly destroyed by fire.  Community leaders were the catalyst for a partnership between the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in undertaking first the stabilization, and then the restoration, preservation, and renovation of this historic eighteenth century house to serve as a center for the preservation and study of community history and a focus of the Roxbury Heritage State Park.  The program and design for the Heritage Center were developed in close collaboration with the Roxbury Heritage State Park Advisory Committee, the city and the state, and interested neighborhood groups; and in consultation with the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Boston Landmarks Commission.
