Edgar Allan Poe Memorial Finalists

After months of intensive study of the works of Edgar Allan Poe, his biographies and Poe Square, the team of Sculptor, Ann Hirsch, and Architect, Robert Olson, designed and proposed a work with many layers of meaning intended to address and inform all viewers. The design focuses on Poe’s love of mysteries and secrets (with a lit puzzle embedded in the base), his relationship to the literary establishment of Boston, the dualism so often found in his tales and his connection to Boston through his mother.

The team was one of 3 finalists selected in a sculpture commission competition sponsored by the Edgar Allan Poe Foundation and Boston Art Commission intended to honor Poe at a square at the intersection of Charles and Boylston streets.  Read their proposal here:
